Giullaume Rouillé was among the most famous, humanist editors of the 16th century. He was of French origin but was trained in the workshop of the Venetian editor Gabriele Giolito de'Ferrari. Even after his return to Lyon he continued to keep connections with the lagoon city and frequently used Venetian text sources and motifs. In 1549 he founded a big publishing enterprise together with the graphic artist Macé Bonhomme. The workshop was also reknown for its translations of standard textual sources such as emblemata, medicine and iconography into Italian and Spanish.
