We are grateful to Fred Meijer of the RKD for his help in cataloguing the present painting (written communication, 25 November 2013).
The present painting refers to a similar still life with the same motifs that was offered at Sotheby’s, London on 31 October 1979 as Alessandro de Loarte (lot 28). The painting also has the monogram GVR and Fred Meijer published it with tentative attribution to Jacob Gerritsz. Cuyp (cf A. Chong, Jacob Gerritsz. Cuyp 1594–1652, Dordrecht, 2002, p. 62–73, ill. 74).
