Provenance:
German private collection; acquired in the Crimea around 1918 by the grandfather of the current owner.
The painting stems from the period in which the young Novakovski was studying at the academy of fine arts in Cracow (1892–1900). Young women in traditional costume, lost in thought, remained a popular motif, even in the artist’s later works.
