Giullaume Rouillé counted to the most famous editors of the 16th century in Lyon. Although he was of French origin, he received his early formation in the workshop of the Venetian editor Gabriele Giolito de'Ferrari. Rouillé maintained his connections to Venice even after his return to Lyon in 1543 and often used Venetian literary sources and motifs. In 1549 he founded his own large publishing enterprise together with the graphic artist Macé Bonhomme, which became famous for its translations of French reference books on emblems, medicine and iconography into Italian and Spanish.
