Cornelis Bega was a pupil of Adriaen van Ostades. The woman on the right side of the present painting can be compared with a figure in Adrian Brouwer’s Tavern with drunken peasants (Mauritshuis, The Hague, inv. no. 847).
Dr Walter Bernt confirmed this painting as an autograph work by Cornelis Bega in an expertise in 1961. He attributed it to Bega’s late production and compared it to his Musicians at the Frans Hals-Museum, Haarlem.
