Vincenzo Dandini (Florence 1609–1675)

Vincenzo Dandini (Florence 1609–1675) - Old Master Paintings

A Flautist, oil on canvas, 83.1 x 77.8 cm, framed

Provenance:
Coll. George Hollingsworth (before 1913);
from 1913 on loan to the Mount Holyoke College Collection;
Coll. Victor D. Spark, New York;
European private collection.

The present painting is one of several known versions of a composition whose authorship has not been definitely clarified. In the Uffizi in Florence there is a closely related painting, which was published by Mina Gregori in 1970 as a work by Cesare Dandini, whereas in 2003, in his monograph, Stefano Bellesi assigned it to the oeuvre of Vincenzo Dandini. A further version was published by Giancarlo Sestieri in 1985 as a work by Cesare Dandini. The painting comes with a certificate written by Prof Mina Gregori (2007), in which she extensively deals with the issue of attribution.
