Van der Heyden’s focus was not on topographical accuracy, as also becomes obvious in his numerous views of towns such as Amsterdam. In many cases, the figures in Van der Heyden’s paintings were executed by Adriaen van de Velde, such as in the present example, but occasionally they were also painted by Johannes Lingelbach.
