Joseph Lauer was a flower and still life painter in Vienna, a pupil of the Vienna Academy under Wegmeyer, Mössmer, Ender and Steinfeld. From early on until the 1860s Lauer exhibited at St. Anna’s and at the Kunstverein. He was one of last renowned flower painters of Pre-March and the Biedermeier in Vienna. His strength lay in the arrangement of flowers and fruits against a neutral and/or landscape background and in distinctly fresh colours.
