Lot No. 115 #

Tina Blau

(Vienna 1845-1916) Spring in the Prater, signed Tina Blau, pen and black ink, on paper, framing lines in pencil, 20 x 26.2 cm, inscribed "Tina Blau" on the reverse, browned, an approx. 2.5 cm long tear reinforced at upper margin, the upper left corner torn, mounted, unframed, (Sch)

The present drawing perhaps served as the model for the preparation of a print after the artist’s most famous painting of the Prater in her best creative period of 1882. The painting which was first rejected by the jury of the Vienna Künstlerhaus (artists’ community) was then acquired by the Imperial paintings gallery. The airiness of the painting due to the motif’s bath in light finds its correspondence in the fragile brush stroke of the drawing.
