1961 Lancia Flaminia Coupé Pininfarina *

Largely unrestored Flaminia! Family-owned for 45 years!
The Lancia family lost control of its own company in 1955. The production facilities were obsolete and sales insufficient. The new owners were determined to release a successor to the Aurelia as quickly as possible in order to being the company back into the black. But their strategy was typically Italian, and two coupés, one by Pininfarina and the other by Touring, were added to the saloon developed based on the results of the “Florida” study. Touring’s version was also released as a convertible, accompanied by a couple of extravagant creations by Zagato, all of them housing state-of-the-art engineering beneath the bodywork. The outcome was a collection of wickedly expensive, luxury vehicles, and the plan failed, probably because it was simply over-the-top.
This Pininfarina Coupé was first registered to a Milan-based company on 17 March 1961, where it remained until 1970. The delightfully pretty coupé was then purchased by a family that kept it for the next 45 years, even when a new generation took over! The Flaminia moved from there to the collection of the consignor, who has a foible for timelessly elegant cars. Even today, it is a beauty to look at with its authentic, largely unrestored condition. Naturally, it carries the traces of its age, but they are precisely the factors that lend it a particular charm and charisma that are lacking in many restored vehicles today. This car is so coveted because of its history, and even now the Lancia proves why it was once mentioned in the same reverent breath as Ferrari and Maserati!
