Adriaenssen was a Flemish painter who primarily executed still lifes of fish, fruit and vegetables, shot wildfowl, and rare flowers, as they also appear in the present painting. His paintings are mostly signed and frequently also dated. A date possibly inscribed in the present painting is no longer legible.
