Jean Jacques François Taurel
(Toulon 1757–1832 Paris)
Southern Seaport with the Arrival of a Galley and Travellers,
monogrammed and dated lower left on the boat: J. T. f. 1814,
oil on canvas, 64 x 100 cm, framed
As has been pointed out for the preceding lot, the present painting is an interesting rediscovery in Taurel’s oeuvre. Unlike the painting dated 1827, the present composition was painted while Taurel still worked for the Paris Academy, in whose Salon he exhibited for the last time in 1817.
