On the reverse side of the painting is a paper label indicating that C. Hofstede de Groot and E. Plietzsch published a second version of this composition. We are grateful to Dr. Arthur Wheelock, who has endorsed the present painting to be an autograph work by Terborch on the basis of a photograph. Fred Meijer and Peter van den Brink, have both independently confirmed the painting’s attribution.
