With its architectural set piece drawn from Roman antiquity, the lively scene full of many burlesque characters, is reminiscent of the works of Johann Lingelbach or Jan Baptist Weenix (see D. A. Levine (ed.), I Bamboccianti, Niederländische Malerrebellen im Rome des Barock, Milan 1991, p. 212 ff. and pp. 290–293).
Another picture by Jacob de Moors, ‘Bowls players amongst the ruins’, signed and dated to 1659, was auctioned on 27.4.1909 in Amsterdam.
