Johann Christian Vollerdt was the pupil of the Saxon landscape painter, Johann Alexander Thiele. He executed fine, richly detailed mountain and river landscapes, mostly small-scale, which generally took their lead from 17th-century Dutch painters, such as Jan Griffier.
