Huber, who was pro-rector of the Berlin Academy from 1738, was appointed painter to the royal Prussian court in 1739. He primarily painted portraits, but also landscapes and history painting. His best-known extant works are his ceiling paintings for the Chinese House in the park at the Palace of Sanssouci in Potsdam.
