Hermann Steinfurth
His works can be attributed to the Düsseldorf School. He received his first training in Düsseldorf with the portrait painter C.F. Sohn and with W. Schadow, amongst others. Numerous study trips through Germany, the Netherlands and Belgium followed. His teachers were convinced of the young Steinfurth’s talent from the start, and one can read in the list of pupils at the Düsseldorf Academy from 1844/45 that Steinfurth has painted the large work “The Nurturing of Jupiter by the Bacchantes´ and is one of the few for which we have great hopes of significant success”. He celebrated his glittering debut with this painting in Hamburg in 1846. (Quote from the Lexikon der Düsseldorfer Malerschule, Bruckmann, Munich 1998, Vol. 3, p. 321)
