Raffaele Tafuri: The artist was an autodidact. He studied amongst the circle of late Neapolitan vedute painters and honed his skills in Venice by painting genre scenes and interiors. In doing so, his landscape paintings combined two styles: the Neapolitan explosions of colour and the Venetian tradition of brilliant colour. Works by Tafuri appearing on the international art market are predominantly fresh and lively views of Venice, Chiogga and Verona. His genre scenes and interiors, however, are rare.
