We are grateful to Mrs Marijke de Kinkelder of the RKD, The Hague, for identifying this picture as an autograph work by van der Stoffe. ? As well as numerous mounted skirmishes, van der Stoffe also produced scenes of a more peaceful nature with horsemen and groups of shepherds (see RKD, record no. 43804).
