Gottfried Seelos: The artist, a landscape and architectural painter as well as a lithographer, was the brother of the painters Gustav and Ignaz Seelos. He was a pupil of Joseph Selleny, whose sister he later married, and of Jan Novopacky. He was chiefly active in Vienna although he undertook study trips, including visits to Italy. He exhibited at the Austrian Kunstverein from 1853 onwards and later also at the Künstlerhaus in Vienna, becoming a member in 1861. He predominantly painted of Southern Tyrolian and Italian landscapes, as well as views of the Istrian and Dalmatian coastlines.
