19th Century German School

19th Century German School - 19th Century Paintings and Watercolours

Portrait of Augusta (1842-1916), Marie (1844-1864) and Eugenie (1848-1867) von Württemberg, signed Hindelang, oil on canvas, 107 x 95 cm, framed, (GG)

Provenance:
Villa Leuchtenberg, Lindau (according to label on the reverse, since 1853 summer villa of the Princess von Leuchtenberg – Theodolinde, Countess of Württemberg – mother of the children portrayed); Italian private collection.

Auguste, Marie and Eugenie were the daughters of Wilhelm, Count of Württemberg, (1810-1869), later 1st Duke of Urach (1869), and his first wife Theodolinde, Duchess of Leuchtenberg (1814-1857). The eldest daughter Auguste, Countess of Württemberg (1842-1916), first married Parzifal, Count of Enzenberg, with her second marriage to Franz, Count of Thun and Hohenstein.
The youngest daughter of the Württembergs, Mathilde, Countess of Württemberg (1854-1907), married Don Paolo Altieri, Principe di Viano, in 1874, which may explain why the portrait forms part of an Italian collection.
