Anton Fidler
(active in Vienna in c. 1825–1855)
A large bouquet of flowers in a basket with pineapple, signed, dated and inscribed Ant. Fidler. K. K. Prof. 1832, oil on panel, 73 x 58.5 cm, framed, (continuous fissure in the wooden plate, signs of cracking), (Rei)
Anton Fidler was an Austrian painter based in Vienna, who repeatedly exhibited still lifes there between 1825 and 1855. He primarily specialised in floral pieces in the style of his contemporaries, such as Anton Hartinger (1806-1890). He uses fine brushstrokes to depict the colours, shapes and surface structures of the plants in minute detail, with the impact of the floral piece finding complete expression in the clear composition of the subject.
