Joseph Selleny participated in the circumnavigation of the Novara commissioned by the later Mexican Emperor Archduke Maximilian. Selleny’s lively pictures of this journey were the models for numerous publications and served as illustrations in magazines and newspapers. The two sheets of the crew on the ship provide an authentic picture of the life on the sea.
