The first lot depicts the artist’s wife Juliette and her friend Bianca resting on a Venetian bed. Bianca is lying on her elbow and looking directly at the viewer, while Juliette stretches out on the bed with her arms above her head.
Mario Cavaglieri met Juliette in 1911. She would become his model, his inspiration and, ten years later, his wife. In 1925 Cavaglieri moved to France, where he purchased the Domaine de Peyloubère in Pavie in the south-west of France.
The second lot shows two Savona blue and white vases filled with large bouquets of lilacs on a Louis XV console in front of an open window in Peyloubère (see lot 106).
