1966 Vespa 90 Super Sprint

1966 Vespa 90 Super Sprint - Solo Vespa. Quasi.

In 1965 Piaggio presented two sports models based on the Smallframe series, with 50 and 90 cc respectively. They were called Super Sprint, or simply SS. They had a tapered legshield, a shorter wheelbase, a shorter handlebar, a lengthways mounted spare wheel with a tool box on top. The 90 Super Sprint was tuned to a full 6 horsepower, which made it reach a top speed of almost incredible 90 km/h.

From 1965 to 1971 only 5,308 specimen of the 90 Super Sprint were built. It quickly became an icon, but at the same time its price was rather hefty. Today the 90 Super Sprint, together with its smaller sister, the 50 SS, are among to most wanted jewels ever built by Piaggio. The consequence is that original examples rarely change hands.

This Vespa 90 Super Sprint came from Bavaria to Austria some ten years ago. Already prior to that it had been comprehensively restored to a high level, which it still shows today. After all in the past decade it was treated well with hardly any signs of wear added.
