Thomas Ender made this drawing on the occasion of his study trip to Italy which immediately followed his sojourn in Brazil in 1820. After stops in Verona, Florence, Siena and Viterbo he arrived in Rome at the end of March in 1820, where he sojourned for a month until the end of April. He depicted the Palazzo Venezia also on two other occasions. (vgl. Koschatzky 1982, p. 214).
