1996 Porsche 993 Carrera 4S

1996 Porsche 993 Carrera 4S - Classic Cars

Opulently detailed example of the last air-cooled 911!

Porsche presented the 993 as the next-generation 911 in 1993. The design looked significantly more up-to-date than its predecessor, while unmistakably remaining a classic 911. The engineering was also thoroughly reworked, the engine improved, and its performance enhanced in 1996 by the VarioRam. Innovative elements of the 959 were also incorporated in the chassis and four-wheel drive. The Carreras 4S was released in 1995. Apart from the rear spoiler, it was identical to the broad Turbo, but powered by a naturally aspirated engine with 285 hp. The brake system, front spoiler and chassis were also incorporated from the Turbo, and numerous details that were otherwise available only at a premium (e.g. air conditioning) were now fitted as series features of the 4S. Fewer than 7,000 Carerra 4S cars were built before the 996 was released in 1998, bringing the era of air-cooled 911s to an end.

This 993 Carrera 4S was dispatched to Hanover in the sensational colour of polar silver with a cedar green, fully leather interior, in May 1996. It was ordered as part of the Exclusive Programme (09991) with a sunroof (650), lumbar support on the left (586), a third brake light in the roof panel (602), Motorola hands-free system (617) and digital sound package (680), as well as heated seats on the left (139) and right (340). The Porsche moved to Austria ten years later and has been owned by the consignor since April 2008. He looked after his 911 with the same loving care as its previous owner. It would otherwise not be in the condition we find it today. The service booklet tells the same story, documenting regular servicing right from the beginning. The consignor fitted the Porsche with a new exhaust system in stainless steel – hidden from sight, but durable and melodious. He also installed new steering gear and Pirellis in 2015, a fresh battery in 2016, and has looked after the vehicle with tender loving care ever since. The Porsche has only clocked up 109,000 km, and even they seem to have left hardly any traces. Anyone tempted to acquire one of the last air-cooled 911s simply cannot miss the opportunity to bag this exclusive specimen!
