1942 Hercules Troup Bicycle

1942 Hercules Troup Bicycle - Classic Cars

Hercules from Nuremberg, among Germany’s oldest manufacturers of bicycles, became one of its most successful toward the end of the 19th century. Between times, it also produced motorcycles, trucks (even with electric motors!) and vans. It can only be an ironic twist of fate that a company, Aryanised due its outstanding quality whose owners were forced into American exile, became purveyor to the German troops.

This troop bicycle (frame number 598869) was built in 1942, as evidenced by the embossed stamps on the frame or the wheel hub. It seems to be completely original and unrestored. The black Pertrix light and battery, the dynamo, the pedals, wings or even the back light are all original components marked with the D.R.P. stamp. Even rare parts like the removable express handlebars with wooden grips or the removable brakes remain preserved. Only new spokes were fitted to the two wheels. The accessories like the knapsack, field blanket, tent tarpaulin, air pump or the Pallas luggage rack are original pieces. The quality of workmanship and the lightweight design are impressive. Not even modern bicycles roll as smoothly as this more than 70-year-old Hercules bicycle.
