Monogrammist PS - Old Master Paintings

A trompe l’oeil still life including letters visible through a window, with a partially drawn curtain,
oil on canvas, 55 x 82 cm, framed

We are grateful to Fred Meijer for confirming the attribution on the basis of digital photographs.

A comparable painting by the Monogrammist PS was sold as by the Haarlem still-life and vanitas painter Jan Vermeulen at Sotheby’s, Amsterdam, on 6 May 1997. That work reappeared at Sotheby’s, New York, on 25 May 2000 as by the Monogrammist PS and dated 1663. The present painting and that work are the only two paintings so far attributed to this artist.
