In 1870, Anton Schrödl travelled to North Africa together with the well-known patron of the arts and sciences Count Johann Nepomuk Wilczek (1837-1922). In the course of this journey, Schrödl completed several oil paintings and drawings with scenes from the area around Algiers. These pictures are among the most sought-after works from his oeuvre today. The present lot was created during the journey and depicts the wide landscape of the region. On the left in the foreground, heavy rocks stretch out in front of a lake shore and the warm colours exude the heat of North Africa.
