The present drawing is an excellent example of the Late Mannerist drawing style of Pietro Novelli il Monrealese. A technically and stylistically comparable study for “The Crowning of Saint Chiara” is preserved in the Ratjen collection in Munich (compare: D. Graf, in: Italienische Zeichnungen des 16.-18. Jahrhunderts, exh. cat. Munich 1977, No. 63, Fig. p. 138).
