Jakob Kaschauer was active as a painter and sculptor in Vienna before 1463. He is first documented in 1429. In 1449 he delivered an altar for the Michaelerkirche in Vienna, which has not been preserved. In 1443 he created the high altar for the Freising Cathedral, some parts of which have survived. He also worked for the construction company Dombauhütte St. Stephan in Vienna.
