Johann Franz Schwanthaler (1683 - 1762 Ried im Innkreis) was one of the main masters of the Ried sculpture workshop, alongside his father Thomas Schwanthaler, whose workshop he took over in 1711, and his son Johann Peter Schwanthaler the Elder, to whom he handed over the workshop in 1759. His works include the tabernacle and pulpit in Waldzell (1721), works in Hohenzell (tabernacle figure, St. George and St. Michael), side altars in Lohnsburg and the high altar in Lengau (1755).
