A Russian Propaganda Plate "The Candle Bearer" dated 1922, - Works of Art

porcelain, the moulded body with border of small red fringes, black ovals and crosses with black rim, the lip with blue, yellow, red and orange fantastical flowers with green leaf branches, the well with tondo featuring a crowned candle bearer with coloured and golden clothes, his right hand raised for the oath, in his left a candle, in the background green painted churches with domes and crosses, exterior framed by 2 angels in blue dresses, they stand barefoot on golden framed mat, holding a golden vase with flowers with their outstretched arms, diameter 26.5 cm
Saint Petersburg, Russia, underglaze green mark with crown Alexander II, 1855–1881, 1922, State Porcelain Manufactory Leningrad, blue hammer-and-sickle and cogwheel mark 1922, blue no. 351/6 and artist’s monogram V. R., Varvara Rukavishnikova (Ru)

The original "candle carrier" plate was created by A. V. Shchekatikhina-Potozkaya in 1922. It was exhibited in Switzerland in 1923. (In the historical archives in St. P. there is a note from 1923, about its sale abroad.)
