The son of the porcelain painter Johann Leopold Daffinger, Moritz Michael designed floral garlands for gloves which his mother embroidered for noble women already at the age of 10. At the age of 11 he was apprenticed to the Imperial-Royal porcelain manufacture. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts and became a pupil of Heinrich Friedrich Füger. From 1809 onwards Daffinger exclusively dedicated himself to portrait painting and was particularly occupied with painting miniatures on ivory. From 1812 on he was engaged by Duke Metternich. He was influenced by Thomas Lawrence and Eugene Isabey.
