Figurative representations and graffito are inserted in the marble floor of the basilica in Siena. The floor comprises 56 fields which show biblical scenes, sybils, vices and various historical motifs. Giovanni Battista Silvestri worked as an architect and restorer at the Barriera di San Lorenzo in Siena (gate and town wall), which was demolished in 1930 and on the Neogothic facade of Santa Maria del Fiore, the cathedral of Florence.
