Collection Michelangelo Pacetti (1793–1865), Rome, Lugt 2057; Staatliche Museen Berlin, Kupferstichkabinett – removed from the collection as a doublette; Private collection, Italy.
The present nude study may belong to an early phase of Maratta’s work. It may have been executed at around the time when in 1647 Maratta worked on the fresco in San Giovanni in Fonte in Rome under the guidance of his master Andrea Sacchi. A comparable drawing with two male nude studies is preserved in the Museum Kunst Palast, Düsseldorf. Compare: A. Sutherland Harris, E.
