Serra collection, Dukes of Cardinale, Cava de’Tirreni, since 19th Century;
and thence by descent to the present owner
We are grateful to Riccardo Lattuada for suggesting the attribution after examining the present painting in the original. He dates this painting to Andrea Vaccaro’s late period and suggests that he may have been partially assisted in the execution of this work by his son Nicola Vaccaro (1640–1709).
