The present drawing is related to the series of etchings called “Figurine”, which the artist executed between 1653 and 1658. The figure of the beggar, kneeling in front of a rock is an identical repetition after Rosa’s etching (c. 1656-57, 14,5 x 9,5 cm), cf. The Illustrated Bartsch, No. 288.69; Richard W. Wallace, The etchings of Salvator Rosa, Princeton University Press 1979, No. 68. II. The preliminary study of the etching is published in: Michael Mahoney, The Drawings of Salvator Rosa, New York 1977, fig. 45.25A.
