After the frescoes by Polidoro da Caravaggio with illustrations from the story of Niobe on the façade of the Palazzo Milesi in Rome. Numerous copies from the early 16th century after the frescoes are known. They reproduce the present scene with the adoration of the statue of Niobe. The drawing offered here was probably also made in the first half of the 16th century. For comparable copies see: Lanfranco Ravelli, Polidoro da Caravaggio, Bergamo 1978, Cat.
