The present drawing goes back to a composition by Luca Cambiaso, which was reproduced by Guido Reni in 1607 (Madrid, Bologna, repr. The Illustrated Bartsch, Vol. 40, Part 1, pp. 324-27). The drawing may have been copied by a pupil in Reni’s workshop at approximately the same time when the etching after Luca Cambiaso was executed by Reni.
