1964 Iso Rivolta 300 GT

1964 Iso Rivolta 300 GT - Autoveicoli d'epoca

Supplied new to Germany, in Austria since 1980! With Borrani wheels and power steering! From refrigerators to scooters, and micro mini cars to sports cars, is how the abridged entrepreneurial history of the Rivolta family can be described best. Following the success of the Isetta, which contributed to keeping BMW afloat, the head of the family, Renzo Rivolta, aspired to greater undertakings still. Together with the master engineer Giotto Bizzarrini and the young genius designer Giorgetto Giugiaro, working on behalf of Bertone, the trio created the Iso Rivolta 300. The elegant Gran Turismo are powered by mundane Corvette engines that are in no way inferior to their Italian counterparts. Of these beautiful Bertone coupés, only 792 were produced over the period between 1962 and 1970. And just to conclude the story began earlier, Iso went bankrupt in 1974. This Rivolta 300 GT was supplied new to Germany in 1964 through Auto Becker. It featured Borrani wheels and power steering, and was first registered on 24 September. In 1980, the Gran Turismo moved to Linz, where it stayed until the end of the 1980s. Following a brief spell where it was owned by a number of short-term keepers, none of who ever registered the Iso, it was purchased by a collector in Südsteiermark, who adopted the exotic vehicle, which, at this stage, was in need of restoration. It took 1400 hours, distributed over several years, to return the Iso to its former glory. The body was fully restored, stripped and the bare metal painted red, and the seats and every other little detail, were all restored. At the end, the result of the work was certified as corresponding to a very good original condition. In subsequent years, the Iso's owner kept a meticulous record of the work performed, always including the date and mileage. In 2009, the Rivolta was purchased by the vendor, who was able to find out that its original colour had been a light Grigio and subsequently hatched a plan to restore it to its original look. Although a great idea, the paintwork itself didn't quite work out as planned. 10 years on, the vendor's home has changed from a house to a boat on the Adriatic sea, which is why we are now looking for a new home for this rare find. Far from something one might need to be afraid of, the car's technology inspires trust and, furthermore, isn't rocket science, and while it's looks could be improved on, they certainly don't need to. And, when was the last time you saw an Iso Rivolta on the road?
