1965 Porsche 911, ex-Armin Zumtobel, ex-Walter Röhrl

1965 Porsche 911, ex-Armin Zumtobel, ex-Walter Röhrl - Autoveicoli d'epoca

The fastest early 911 in the history of motor sports! This early 911 was brought into Austria in 2000 and owned by the fastest GP not only in Zillertal, but also far and wide beyond. Doctor Armin Zumtobel converted the Porsche for historic racing and did so without compromise, because he had his mind set on just one thing: winning! The conversion was finished in 2001 and the race car competed for the first time at a race in Mugello. Although victory eluded it that time, the 911 and GP duo won every subsequent race that season. And this is how it continued in the following years. In 2001, 2002 and 2004, Dr Zumtobel won the Historic Touring Car Championship for GT cars up to 1965; in 2004, he became the FIA European Historic Sporting Rally Champion after winning races at the Nürburgring, Grand-Prix Strecke & Nordschleife, in Hockenheim, Oschersleben, Monza, Mugello, Imola, Zolder, at the Sachsenring, Lausitzring and at the Österreichring. In 2011, 2012 and 2014, Dr. Zumtobel and his team mate, the rally legend Walter Röhrl, were able to win the Historic Marathon for their category on the Nordschleife, as eternalised on the car's roof. As Zumtobel's garage shelf is about to collapse under the weight of his trophies, and the Porsche has now won everything there is to win, its owner has decided that it’s time to pass it on to a new driver. Although featuring a few minor blemishes and battle scars, the 911 is ready for immediate use, with a recently overhauled gearbox and no more than a few miles on the clock of the engine restored by Manfred Rugen, which is no longer quite as stated on its papers. This is because this Porsche is approved for road use and comes with a license listing all of the modifications made. Its FIA papers were renewed just last year. Anybody looking for a racing car is unlikely to find anything better than this car, not only with respect to its origins and successes, but in particular because it is simply not possible to build this kind of a car at the estimated price stated below. Because even just the base would cost more than that today! (see Lot 459)
