1953 Royal Enfield Bullet (no reserve)

1953 Royal Enfield Bullet (no reserve) - Autoveicoli d'epoca

Delivered in Austria

Royal Enfield has epitomised robust and reliable motorcycles since 1901. The British army used Royal Enfield motorbikes for decades, during the Second World War as well. The fastest and best two-wheelers were built in England during the 50s and 60s. The Royal Enfield Bullet with 350 ccm or 500 ccm was a popular everyday bike at the time. Previously available only in a 350 ccm version, the Bullet was released with half-litre displacement in 1952. The Royal Enfield Company was sold at the end of the 1960s, ending the Bullet production in England. The Royal Enfield Bullet is still manufactured in Madras, India. The name Bullet, used for the first time in 1931, has also survived.

This Bullet was involved in an accident on the roads of Austria in the late 60s/early 70s, ending up on the scrap heap with a twisted fork and a dented tank. A friend of the consignor discovered the wreck a few years later, saving it from the crusher. Kept in a dry place, the Bullet was left untouched for 20 years. The consignor took it to England in 1995, where he commissioned a Bullet specialist with its elaborate restoration. The work was performed with a real love of detail. For instance, the unavailable stickers on the side cap were airbrushed on to the new and upscale, copper paint job in a precise replica of the originals. Now the engine is definitely sealed as well, so the waggish nickname ‘Royal Oilfield’ would be unfair to this motorbike following its overhaul. That the original papers are lost is understandable if one considers the life story of this Bullet, but the km/h speedometer and the Austrian emblem on the insignia certainly confirm its original delivery to Austria. So even if a new Royal Enfield can still be bought today, the original is found right here.
