The elm-lined promenade in Euxinograd is by far one of the artist’s most famous motifs. Upon invitation of King Ferdinand of Bulgaria, she travelled to the Black Sea in the early summer of 1906 and spent several weeks at his summer residence. In her diaries, she wrote enthusiastic descriptions of the botanical garden, the castle park and the magnificent elm-lined promenade along the seaside. After her return, she executed many versions of this motif. The present painting captivates its viewers through its proto-Expressionist brushstrokes and strong colours.

We are grateful to Mag. Alexander Giese for his scientific assistance. He will include the present work in the forthcoming catalogue raisonné of Olga Wisinger-Florian.
