...The grand moulded forms in the tectonic compositions of the 1920s give way to an illustrative, almost folkloric depiction. The dominant element is no longer urban architecture, but rather rustic buildings, the rustic milieu. Human figures of evanescent anonymity, clad in traditional costumes or work clothes, populate the place where they live and work, inhabiting the scene as if in a still life...
