Tina Blau

Tina Blau - 19th Century Paintings

(Vienna 1845–1916) Canal in Holland, inscribed T. Blau, on the reverse inscription in the artist’s own hand, oil on panel, 16.5 x 26 cm, framed, (Rei)

Tina Blau
is considered one of the most important representatives of Austrian Mood Impressionism. Influenced by Schindler, she also undertook many study trips to Germany and Italy with him after her training at the Academy in Vienna. It was the open Dutch landscape and its quality of light which she found particularly relevant for her own depictions of the landscape. Involvement with Dutch 17th century painting and the Barbizon School significantly influenced this artist's work. The tonal colouring and clear delineation between areas of light and shade are typical of Tina Blau's paintings, and demonstrated in the work here.
