Lot No. 85

Franz Werner von Tamm (2)

(Hamburg 1658–1724 Vienna) A pair of still life paintings with putti and flower festoons, oil on canvas, each 135 x 185 cm, framed

Certificate: Professor Giancarlo Sestieri, Rome.

The putti are by the hand of Giacinto Calandrucci (1646–1707). The two elegant still lifes were originally part of a decorative scheme.and the present works can be compared with similar paintings by Tamm for Cardinal Francesco Montioni (1692-94), executed in collaboration with Carlo Maratta. He repeated the same compositions for the Marchese Pallavicini. The type of still lifes he created became very popular among collectors in Rome and Naples. Tamm not only worked with Maratta but also with collaborators of his workshop. In the present painting it must have been Giacinto Calandrucci who designed the naturalistic putti.
