The composition is in line with the description of a painting in the „Vita” of the artist published by Francesco Saverio Baldinucci: “A bacchanal with stayrs and satyresses dancing around the statue of Bacchus with putti who decorate the statue with flowers and fruits and with a small village.“ (F. S. Baldinucci, Vite di artisti dei secoli XVII - XVIII, herausgegeben von A. Matteoli,1975, p. 175.) The painting by Lauri was offered for sale at the Dorotheum auction „Old Masters” on October 12, 2011 (lot 438). A gouache (19 x 25 cm) which shows a somewhat shortened composition on the right side was exhibited in the Trafalgar Galleries at the Royal Academy II (Cat. No 39) in 1983.
