Porsche launched a modified version of its 356 in 1955. Featuring many technical bodywork revisions, it is known quite simply by the name “A”. Its look was a major step forward: a domed windscreen, conversion to 15” wheels in combination with a broader gauge and mounted bumpers, a new dashboard on the inside and modern seats. Many technical details were improved, for instance the brakes and the steering, although the original, purist shape of the body remained untouched.
br>This Porsche 356 is one of the very last 1959 A-Models, produced just before the launch of the thoroughly redesigned B-Model in autumn of the same year. It started its life in Sweden, where salt is placed only in food and not on the roads, which is why Swedish metal often has less of a struggle with rust than the weather might suggest. The Porsche moved to southern climes, Italy to be exact, in 2011, where it was given a complete and high-quality refurbishment. Even today it remains in a magnificent condition! Whether it’s the engine compartment, body or interior, every single aspect is equally convincing on the inside and out. The same is true of its performance. The additional headlights and rims without embellishers all emphasise its sporty look.
